Understanding the Criminal Law Process Part 17 of 17 | Family Law Attorney Fort Myers/Naples

If you lose at trial, the judge will normally pronounce a sentence immediately for misdemeanors. For felony convictions, there may be a separate sentencing hearing. During that hearing evidence may be presented to argue for a harsher or less harsh sentence. In most cases, once sentencing has taken place, the Judge will Order you to begin the terms of your sentence within 24 hours. For example, if you are sentenced by the Judge to a term of probation, you are typically required to report to probation that same day, or the following morning. If you are sentenced to a term of incarceration, you will be remanded to the custody of the holding agency immediately after sentencing and fingerprints are taken.
