You don’t necessarily have to absent a court order, but we encourage it. We encourage for you to maintain a good mutual relationship with your child’s parent. The reason for it is because if you are not on good terms, then that parents can then file petitions with the court and can make it very difficult on you with the moving and could potentially get the child because they will be able to show the court that you have not been able to maintain and foster a good relationship between parent and child.
